TRIMONT — Abby Busch’s final numbers in the boxscore spoke volumes — 10 of 15 from the field, 11 of 11 at the line, 33 points, 17 rebounds, five steals and four blocked shots. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s senior power forward, however, discovered Monday night that even great prep players always can use a little help from their friends to get by an opponent. Guard Kristi Kalk produced 14 points on the strength of four 3-pointers, including a key trifecta in overtime, to complement Busch’s game-best totals to propel the visiting Thunderbirds to a 62-54 non-league victory over the previously-undefeated Martin County West Mavericks in Sherburn. “We had our chances, but we just couldn’t put them away. Every time we went on a run, they would answer,” said Maverick mentor Rodger Taylor. “Hopefully, we can use this as a learning experience for down the road.” After building a 26-22 halftime lead, the Mavericks stampeded out of the gate to open the second segment.
