| | Ideas worth spreadingOctober 31, 2011 - Meg AlexanderI watched this lecture online the other day and feel it is definitely worth sharing. The video — "The danger of a single story" — is about 10 minutes long, featuring Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie. As a journalist, her lecture was particularly significant to me as a journalist and a storyteller, but it's truly important stuff for anyone. "The single story creates stereotypes and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story the only story,” Adichie says. “The consequence of the single story is this: It robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar.”
